Delhi is mini-Hindustan and the Congress has kept the feeling of brotherhood intact while delivering development in the state, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said at a rally on Sunday.
He was addressing a rally in Ambedkar Nagar in south Delhi ahead of the assembly polls on December 4.
He said his family too had migrated from Kashmir to UP and finally came to Delhi.
"The entire country's energy is visible in Delhi," he said.
Full text of Rahul Gandhi's speech:
"Delhi is state of migrants. In a way, it is mini-Hindustan. People from here from UP, Bihar, Mumbai. People from across India come here. My family went from Kashmir to UP and from UP to Delhi. Sheila Dikshit's family too made the journey from UP to Delhi.
The entire country's energy is visible in Delhi. And Sheila-ji's government in the last few years has transformed Delhi. And the opposition leaders too accept this. You look at the infrastructure. An international airport was built. Delhi was connected to the rest of the world. The Delhi airport is considered number 2 in the world. 20 lakh people travel on the metro. Earlier there was no electricity. Today, Delhi has 24-hour power supply. The entire infrastructure of Delhi has changed. 130 flyovers have been constructed. No other Indian city has infrastructure like Delhi.
But the Congress party thinks that till we give power to the aam aadmi, to these women, the city cannot progress. And in the last 15, the Congress government in Delhi and at the Centre had done this deeply. I will give two-three examples. There is talk of corruption. Our government gave you the Right to Information.
Now any person in the country can ask any question to his government.
Sheila Dikshit started the concept of Bhagidari so that the common man is involved in decision-making. Our whole philosophy is about rights.
We make more infrastructure that the BJP. I asked the road ministry how many roads were made during NDA's tenure. We made three times more roads.
For us, every person in Delhi is equal -- whether he is a Hindu, or Muslim or Sikh or Christian or of any other religion.
You go to BJP-ruled places such as Karnataka, Maharashtra. They create tension there. People from UP go to Maharashtra and people from Shiv Sena chase them away.
But here, we have love and brotherhood. And we want to take everyone along.
Sheila-ji has run a very good government and everyone accepts this. She has experience and in the coming time, she will do good work in Delhi.
On one side there is Sheila-ji who has a track record and on the other side there is the BJP, which gives big lectures but you know its record here. So when elections take place, you support the Congress party."
